DUNGUN

The town of Kuala Dungun used to be one of the state’s busiest town when iron one mining in Bukit Besi supplies a large percentage of world production from 1920’s up until early 1970’s. upon the closure of the mine, Dungun town turns into a sleep hollow. To date, Dungun is known for its natural attractions such as the Chemerong Waterfall, the oldest Chengal tree as well as the homestays at Kampung Pasir Raja. Dungun is also home to beautiful beaches such as Pantai Rantau Abang, Pantai Teluk Lipat, Pantai Teluk Bidara and Pantai Kuala Abang which are the weekend destination for locals.

HULU TERENGGANU

Hulu Terengganu is the biggest and the only landlocked district in Terengganu. It borders Kelantan in the west and Pahang in the south. A part of Hulu Terengganu is actually included in Malaysia’s Taman Negara (National Park). Although most visitors enter Taman Negara through Kuala Tembeling in Pahang, Tanjung Mentong in Tasik Kenyir is actually the nearest and serves as an alternative gateway to Taman Negara.

Hulu Terengganu district offers hundreds of million years old vast tropical rainforest with diverse and exotic flora and fauna. There are plenty of outdoor and rugged activities that surely will please even the least adventurous. Visitors can engage in jungle trekking, camping, angling, rafting, canoeing, mountain biking, mountain climbing, caving and bird watching as well as night safaris.

(JETI KUALA BESUT) THE KUALA BESUT JETTY

The jetty is situated a few kilometers from the Kuala Besut town and it serves as a disembarking point for visitor enroute to Pulau Perhentian. At the jetty, ample parking space are available as well as souvenir shops, ticketing counters, travel agents and restaurants. Budget accommodation on the island can also be booked at the jetty. Boat services operate till the evening for the convenience of late-arrivals but should the water turns choppy, it is advisable to stay overnight at few budget hotels at Kuala Besut.

Pulau Perhentian is actually a group of islands comprises of Pulau Perhentian Besar, Pulau Perhentian Kecil, Pulau Rawa, Pulau Serenggeh, Pulau Susu Dara Besar and Pulau Susu Dara Kecil. This are the emerald islands that are fast becoming the destination of choice for travelers from around the world. The islands offer an amazing snorkeling experience in crystal clear waters. Spectacular marine lives and diverse species of hard and soft corals in the clear, aquamarine waters will definitely thrill divers. Here, manta rays, reef sharks, barracudas and turtles roam freely in their natural habitat, unmazed to the curious divers flashing lights of their underwater. Snorkelers could feed the colorful variety of fishes at the Three Coves Bay. For the less adventurous, the beaches are an ideal location just to laze around and do practically nothing.
